No one could have predicted Spain’s total collapse Thursday to open its defense of the World Cup.

Mexico 1, Cameroon 0: El Tri earns three huge points
Major upset in Natal: The field held up (despie torrential rain) and the stadium didn’t collapse.
So FIFA has that going for it!
*** Mexico deserved to win – and win by multiple goals.
It was clear early that this wasn’t the El Tri team that struggled through qualifying. Mexico was the aggressor from the outset, controlling possession and keeping Cameroon on its heels.
The only issue was finishing:
Mexico missed a great chance off a set piece in the 27th minute and, of course, was on the wrong end of two blown offsides calls.
